What?
School avoidance is a disorder affecting school-aged children who avoid attending school because attendance causes stress.
Why?
There are a variety of reasons why a child might avoid school, such as;
Anxiety
Depression
Social factors
How can I help?
Try creating a morning schedule or routine. This can create a sense of security and reduce stress before leaving the house.
Ask your child what might help it easier for them to attend school.
Encourage them to do things that help them relax.
Recognise small achievements.
Try to take the pressure off.
Speak to the school, they may have a procedure in place that might help.
